About Witchybird and her values

Hi there, who am I?
                                                                   Looking fabulous since 1998!

Hello! Let Me Introduce Myself

I’m Robyn, but you might know me as WitchyBird.

Born in 1998 and a proud Aquarius, I’m all about arts and crafts, folklore, and a soft spot for monkeys. One day, I dream of opening a cosy little shop filled with things I’ve made myself.

Growing up abroad meant I had the opportunity to meet amazing people from all walks of life. I was a bit of a tomboy, but I always loved creating—making doll clothes, toy furniture, and delving into all things fantasy and fun chaos.

When I moved back to England, I found my tribe in a small but welcoming alternative community. My style’s always been a mix—one day dungarees, the next goth—and I’m proud of my nerdy passions.

My Journey

I started selling handmade stuff under the fun name The Random Robin Bird in college—think steampunk bits and custom dolls made just for the joy of it. Jewellery-making became a passion after my mum gifted me a silversmithing experience, and from there, the love for creating grew.

I wasn’t a fan of what I saw on the shelves—chokers were often bulky or leaned too much into punk and goth styles. I wanted something gentler, with pieces that could easily be worn with a variety of outfits, not just alternative looks. After trialling certain designs, I found there was a large demand for crystal chokers and chokers with more dainty chains. As such, I got to work. So far, I’ve made my friend’s wedding jewellery and custom pieces for people with a variety of styles. It’s become a really fun hobby, and I love seeing how people style what I create.

That’s how The WitchyBird Shop was born!

What I Believe In

  • Kindness for All: Everyone deserves respect and kindness, no matter their style or story. This shop celebrates you just as you are.

  • Affordable Fun: I keep prices fair—covering only materials and postage—so everyone can enjoy unique, alternative fashion without breaking the bank. I don’t include my labour costs because making these items is a form of therapy and fun for me. Plus, I understand how tough finances can be and how easy it is to have to sacrifice style for affordability. That’s why most of my chokers are partially made—helping keep prices low without compromising on style.

  • Express Yourself: This is your space to shine and be whoever you want to be. No labels, no limits.

  • Earth-Friendly Choices: I try my best to recycle, reuse, and shop in bulk to keep things kind to our planet in carbon emissions.

  • Honesty Always: I’m open about how I make my stuff because trust means everything.

  • Heart and Empathy: I’ve been through ups and downs and know how important kindness is. I run this shop with love and respect for every single person.

At the end of the day, we’re all just humans trying our best. Here’s to kindness, creativity, and a little magic in everything we do

How are items made?

The items I create are either partially assembled or fully handcrafted from scratch. While they might not come in fancy packaging or have big advertising, I’ve been grateful that customers haven’t expressed concerns about this.

My chokers currently use a simple polyurethane base that I purchase, which I then rebuild or customise to create new designs. I add materials like silver-plated chains, jump rings, crystals, charms, beads, and more. My goal is to one day make chokers completely from scratch, but for now, I modify and repurpose what’s available due to manufacturing costs. Every choker is uniquely redesigned, so no two are exactly alike, and they stand apart from mass-produced items in style and theme.

For earrings, I assemble them using silver or gold-colored hooks or hoops, combined with jump rings, charms, beads, and crystals that I source. I find making earrings relaxing and fun, even if they’re a bit less popular than chokers. I also create phone charms with a similar process.

The acrylic keyrings I sell are my designs, produced through a trusted third-party manufacturer. I use the same method for stickers and badges. Occasionally, I handcraft keychains using leftover charms, purchased acrylic pieces, or found objects I repurpose.

My mystery bags are a playful way to share surplus items like crystal pendants, pins, stickers, and sometimes handmade or novelty pieces, offering a fun, affordable surprise.

When I make items, I attach them to backing cards I create myself for chokers and necklaces. Safety labels are printed at home. I try to keep outsourcing and plastic packaging to a minimum, using plastic only when necessary, often sourced locally. For shipping, I use plastic envelopes, but always look for biodegradable options when possible.

On sustainability and ethics: I’m honest that my process isn’t fully sustainable or ethical yet. Many tools, charms, and supplies come from vendors who may not focus on these issues. I do my best to minimise harm and support small local businesses when I can, but it’s a challenge given the nature of e-commerce. My chokers aren’t vegan since polyurethane is fossil-based. I’m exploring genuine leather options, focusing on recycling and reducing waste to keep sustainability and ethics in mind as much as possible.

At the end of the day, I’m just human, trying to do my best with a conscience and continually working to improve how I create and source my products.
